12U 2010 Takoma Fire Tournaments

12U takes 2nd place at Early Bird Invitational

In a Memorial Day weekend tournament (Early Bird Invitational) in Maryland, the 12U Fire won its 2 qualifying games easily (7-1 and 14-1), behind solid pitching and fielding.  In tournament play, the 12U Fire was the top seed and won its 1st game 5-0.  The team fell behind in the 2nd game by a 4-1 score before coming back to win the semifinal game, 9-5.  Some key hits and opportunistic base running led the way.  The final game ended in a 5-4 loss with the tying run on 3rd base for the Fire.   In light of the tough competition, the 12U Fire team was proud of its 2nd place finish.

NSA World Series Berth!

Team12UWilliamsburg
The Takoma Fire 12U placed 3rd in the 1st Annual
Williamsburg, VA Fall Classic earning a berth in the 2010 NSA World Series!

The Fire defeated the Hampton Road Hurricanes 9-0, lost to the Koastal Kaos
7-4, and defeated the Williamsburg Starz Green 9-7. Unfortunately, the
tournament was rained out on Sunday with the Fire seeded 3rd – a great
disappointment to the girls who were looking forward to the championship
play and improving their tournament finish!

The Fire had their hitting shoes on all day, hitting the ball consistently
in all 3 games. The highlight was plating 9 runs in one inning – all of
them with clutch at bats after 2 were out. Defensively, the team was
solid, but for lapses in one inning, with notable outfield defense
contributions by Susannah Merrill and Maddie Palmieri. The pitching and
catching were once again solid with contributions from Annie Pietanza,
Katherine Murtha, Shelley Donaldson, Kerry Madden, and Maria Cruz.
Aggressive base running also aided the cause yielding runs and pressuring
the defense. Once again – contributions from everyone on the roster
contributed to another successful tournament.

The 12U Takoma Fire fastpitch softball team won the 2009 Mid-Atlantic Recreational Open held July 18-19 at the Olney Sports Complex finishing with a 5-1 record.

The Fire defeated the Surge team from Virginia 8-6 in the championship game avenging their only loss in the tournament.  Along the way, with key contributions from every member of the team, the Fire defeated teams from Howard County, Germantown, Ashburn, and Reston.  Timely hitting, aggressive base running, stellar catching, and stout pitching keyed the four Sunday victories in championship pool play.
